Before you convert
Send us your order number or a photo of the label. If we built it, we already know the frame and can price the conversion quickly. If another company built it, send photos of the legs, the base and any engineering you have, and we will tell you what it needs.
FAQ
Yes. We add side walls, end walls, a roll-up door, a walk-in door and windows to turn a carport into a fully enclosed garage. On a carport we did not build, we check the frame, leg height and engineering first and quote what it needs.
Closing both sides starts at $440 and each closed end starts at $540 on a small carport with 6′ legs. A wind-rated roll-up door starts at $1,325, a walk-in door is $300 and a window is $200. As a finished example, a fully enclosed 24′ × 26′ garage with 9′ legs, a 10′ × 8′ roll-up door and a walk-in door is about $10,560 installed.
Usually. Plan legs at least 1′ taller than the door. An 8′ tall roll-up door needs about 9′ legs, and a 10′ tall door needs about 11′ to 12′ legs. Most carports have 6′ legs, which is too short for a standard garage door.
In most Florida jurisdictions, yes. Enclosing a carport changes the wind loads on the frame, so the engineering and permit need to show the walls and doors. We prepare the revised engineering and file the permit.
It depends on your wind zone and foundation. Many coastal counties and all stem-wall buildings need impact-rated doors. Impact-rated roll-up doors start at $1,600, impact walk-in doors at $600 and impact windows at $590.
Ordering the garage up front almost always costs less. You pay for one engineering package, one permit and one install trip, and the legs and bracing are sized for walls from the start.
Tell us your carport size, leg height and address, and what you want to add. We will send a written quote with engineering, permits and installation spelled out.
