Home » Metal Carports in Florida
Quick answer
Metal Building HQ builds the metal carports Florida owners use to cover cars, trucks, boats, RVs and equipment. We deliver and install on your site, with certified drawings for your county’s design wind speed available when the building department asks. Pick a size and roof style, then call (239) 366-2356 or design your carport in 3D.
Key facts
A carport is a steel roof on a galvanized steel tube frame, open at the sides. We install steel carports in Florida for homeowners covering cars and trucks, for boat and RV owners, and for farms and businesses covering trailers and equipment.

Choose what you need to cover. These typical footprints help you plan the width and length of your carport.
A compact carport for one vehicle.
Extra width for parking two vehicles side by side.
A wider layout for three vehicles.
A longer footprint for recreational vehicles or boats.
These are typical sizes for planning. Set the exact size in the design tool: lengths start at 20 feet and legs run from 6 to 20 feet.
ROOF STYLES
Rounded eaves, with no hat channel or ridge cap.
Our most economical carport
A-frame look with horizontal roof panels.
A house-style look at a mid price

Closing in the sides changes the wind loads, so tell us before the drawings are made.
Every Florida site has a design wind speed, set by the Florida Building Code’s wind maps. For ordinary buildings it runs from 115 mph in the inland north to 180 mph in the Keys. Cape Coral is 160 mph, “which may be 170 mph” (City of Cape Coral). The rest of Lee County is about 150 to 170 mph depending on where the site sits; the building department confirms the figure for your address.
We certify our carports to 150 mph, with upgrades to 180 mph. That is a 3-second gust figure. Hurricane categories use 1-minute sustained winds, so the two are not the same measure.
Near the coast, the code’s wind-borne debris region covers sites within 1 mile of the mean high water line where Exposure D exists and the design speed is 130 mph or more, and any site at 140 mph or more.
We do not call any carport “hurricane proof”. See wind ratings explained.
In almost every case, yes. Florida Statutes s. 553.79(1)(a) makes it unlawful to “construct, erect, alter, modify, repair, or demolish any building” without first obtaining a permit, and carports are not exempt statewide.
Carports Anywhere’s permitting team pulls permits under Odai Abu Salim’s license. Stamped plans: generic about 2-3 weeks after payment, as-built about 4-6 weeks; the engineer invoices the customer directly. See our carport permit guide.
Expansion anchors at every post
Our diagram shows a 4 inch thick, 2,500 psi reinforced slab
4″ helix earth augers (not wedge anchors)
Auger length is set by soil type and wind speed on the engineered drawing
Auger (ground) anchors screwed into the soil beside each post
For dirt or gravel pads
The certified drawings name the anchor for your site, and the installed anchors must match. There is no fixed wind speed above which concrete is required. Ground and asphalt installs use helix augers sized for the site’s wind speed and soil, with more anchors at higher wind speeds and in Exposure C and D. Concrete is needed when the engineered drawing or the county calls for it.
FLORIDA CARPORT PRICING
Compare our starting prices for installed metal carports with published national price ranges. Your final quote depends on the size, leg height, roof style, design wind speed and anchoring requirements.
A compact carport for protecting one vehicle from sun and rain.
A two-car layout for everyday vehicle protection.
Additional width for a more spacious two-car parking area.
A longer and taller cover for RVs, campers and boats. Price is for 12′ legs and a regular roof; $4,235 with a vertical roof.
Important pricing note: The HomeGuide figures are national installed prices, not our prices and not Florida-specific. Your quote depends on size, leg height, roof style, design wind speed and anchoring.
A new slab costs $6 to $12 per square foot nationally (HomeGuide, February 2026).
Financing is available through EZ Pay.
Lead time from order to installation is about 8 weeks.
Our frames are galvanized: a zinc coating protects the steel as a barrier, and sacrificially at cut edges (American Galvanizers Association). Coastal air is more corrosive, so near salt water, rinse the carport with fresh water. We do not promise a service life in years.
Every carport carries our 40-year limited warranty, which covers rust-through on 14-gauge and 12-gauge framing (regular and boxed eave styles up to 41′ long, vertical roof style up to any length), with a 1-year workmanship warranty from the date of installation and a limited lifetime warranty on all certified units for wind loads.
From Fort Myers we deliver and install in these parts of Florida: Fort Myers and Naples; Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota; Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne and Ocala; Jacksonville; Gainesville; Tallahassee; Panama City; Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach; and West Palm Beach and Fort Pierce.
In almost every case, yes. Florida Statutes s. 553.79 requires a permit to construct or erect a building, and carports are not exempt statewide. Lee County uses its Residential Accessory Structure permit. Rules differ by county, and HOA approval is a separate step.
No. No structure is hurricane proof. Our carports are engineered to a stated design wind speed: 150 mph, with upgrades to 180 mph. Anchoring matters, so the installed anchors must match the certified drawings for your site.
Our starting price for a 12 x 20 carport is $1,395, installed. For comparison, HomeGuide (January 2026) lists national ranges of $2,000 to $4,800 for a 12 x 20 and $3,200 to $8,000 for a 20 x 20, installed.
Measure the length, width and highest point of the rig, including the air conditioner or trailer tongue. RV and boat covers are typically 12 to 18 feet wide and 30 to 45 feet long. Set the exact size in our design tool.
Yes. On dirt or gravel pads we use auger anchors, also called ground anchors, which screw into the soil beside each post. The pad must be level. The certified drawings name the anchor for your site, so ask before you prepare the ground.
For Florida rain, the vertical roof. Its vertical panels sit on hat channel with a ridge cap, so rain and debris run off. It is our premium roof. The regular roof costs least, and the boxed eave gives an A-frame look at a mid price.
